Mirza Ghalib Academy

Posted in Mirza Ghalib Articles by Tarun Gupta on the October 19th, 2005

Ghalib Academy is situated opposite the Qawwali hall of the holy shrine of Hazrat Khwaja Nizam Uddin Aulia near the mausoleum of Ghalib, in the bustling by-lane of Nizamuddin. This place is also a stone’s throw from the tombs of two celebrated poets Amir Khusro and Abdur Rahim Khan Khanan. Built in the architectural style contemporaneous to Ghalib, the Academy’s building has ornamental canopies and embellishments with delicate lattice work along with modern adaptations in order to meet the requirements of the present day. Set in the midst of historical residuum, the place breathes the bewitching grace resembling the times and life of Ghalib. The Academy was established on the death centenary of Ghalib in 1969. It was inaugurated by another Ghalib fan and a man with a name in the world of Letters, President Zakir Hussain. The Academy was equipped with an auditorium, museum and a conscientiously built library, to serve as a melting-pot for all research and discourse on Ghalib and his times.

    Dear sir.
I am really impressed by your website for Ghalib. Many articles and books can be seen from here. You must also launched a urdu website on Ghalib as well. The two all time big schoalrs on Ghalib undoubtedly are Maulana Imtiaz Alikhan Arshi of Rampur India and equally his son Arshi zada who published Ghalib”s hand written Diwan at his Centenary year in 1969.What i have read from there research work (See the illustrous prefaces of Intikhab e Ghalib ,Makateeb e Ghalib,Farhang e Ghalib and Diwan e Ghalib Nuskhay arshi and also of Arshizada Diwan Bakhat e Ghalib ) tells the story that no new findings have come up from other scholars but only they some what have copied from Maulana’s diwan known as Nushkhay Arshi and Bakhat e Ghalib.
After Maulana’s contribution to Ghalib every tom and harry has come on seen with some of thier selected Ghazals from Ghalib published them and got the title of Mahir E Ghalibyat.Virtually every single work on Ghalib in English Language does carry this criteria. It seems they have taken an advantage with schaloars not knowing urdu.

Mr. S. A Shaikh from Nederland can contact me at ayaz_27112005@yahoo.com. i may be a help for him in writing a book on Ghalib to be called Mahir e Ghalibyat.

Anyway a great contribution from you to Honoured Ghalib.
